Understanding Cleft Lip & Palate

Cleft lip and cleft palate are among the most common birth differences, affecting approximately 1 in 700 babies. With expert surgical care, children can achieve excellent functional and aesthetic outcomes.

Cleft Lip

A cleft lip is an opening or split in the upper lip that occurs when facial structures do not fully close during development. It can range from a small notch to a complete separation extending into the nose. Dr. Chaiyasate typically repairs the lip at the age of 3–4 months, using advanced techniques to restore both appearance and function.

Cleft Palate

A cleft palate is an opening in the roof of the mouth that can affect feeding, speech, and hearing. The cleft palate is usually repaired at the age of 9–12 months. Early intervention and a multidisciplinary team approach ensure the best possible outcomes for speech development and overall well-being.
